Have your say on the draft Universal Access Policy

The City of Cape Town encourages residents and interest groups to comment on the draft Universal Access (UA) policy for an accessible transport system. This policy aims to address accessibility challenges faced by minors, the aged, pregnant women, people living with disabilities, passengers with bags or luggage and improve security for all users. The UA Policy is available for comment for 30 days, until Friday, 13 December 2024.

‘The City is committed to keeping Cape Town moving and improving accessibility in the transport system by developing the draft Universal Access (UA) Policy for an accessible transport system. Public transport is the pulse that provides people with access to social and economic opportunities and associated services. It is important that we draft such a policy in consultation with the people it affects. I therefore encourage residents and various stakeholders to submit their comments so that we can refine the draft policy with your input,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

In terms of section 17 of the Local Government: Municipal Systems Act, Act 32 of 2000, the public and interested parties or groups are given the opportunity to submit comments, recommendations or input on this draft UA Policy to the municipality from Thursday, 14 November to Friday, 13 December 2024.

All interested and affected parties are encouraged to visit the City’s Have Your Say web page at www.capetown.gov.za/haveyoursay and select the ‘Comment on the draft Universal Access Policy’ link to submit comments.
